Coco Jones (born January 4, 1997) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Jones rose to prominence in the lead role in the Disney Channel film Let It Shine (2012). Jones was featured on Radio Disney’s Next Big Thing from 2010 to 2011. Jones was previously signed to Hollywood Records before launching independent singles and EPs in 2014.
Beginning of life
She was born in Columbia, South Carolina and grew up in Lebanon, Tennessee to former NFL player Mike Jones and session singer Javonda Jones, Jones began singing at a very young age. Her first stage performance was at the age of six, when she was playing “America the Beautiful” in a crowded auditorium of her parents at her nursery school graduation. At the age of nine, she met the casting heads for Disney. After that, she became an actor and songwriter. In 2006, she appeared on Radio Disney, where she became famous with her song “Real You”.
2006–13: Disney and Hollywood Records
In 2011, she was the guest star on the Disney Channel television series So Random !. In 2009, she was selected to play live on “The Most Talented Kids” episode of the Maury Povich Show. In 2010, Jones was the 3rd in Season 3 of Radio Disney’s The Next Big Thing singing competition. Shortly afterwards, she released her debut project Coco Jones, and began a concert tour around the topic of anti-bullying called UBU-Stop the Bullying.
In June 2012, Jones played the lead role of Roxie in the television movie Disney, Let It Shine. The film was the most watched Disney Channel original film and the most watched film of the year for children and tweens in 2012. Jones and the other lead role of Let It Shine are at the 43rd Annual NAACP Image Awards Nominated Luncheon before the release of the film
Jones signed a record deal with Hollywood Records and teamed up with Grammy-nominated producer Rob Galbraith to record all new original music. Jones’ debut single “Holla at the DJ” premiered on December 6, 2012 on Radio Disney with its release on iTunes the following day. The video for the track premiered on December 12 on the Disney Channel, with a premiere on VEVO shortly thereafter. Their extended game Made Of was released on March 12, 2013 and toured with Mindless Behavior later that year. Jones performed with Mindless Behavior at the Disney Music Radio Awards, and took home an award for “Funniest Celebrity Take”. Following the release of the EP, Jones worked in the studio with David Banner, Ester Dean and Jukebox, with plans to release their debut album by August.
2014 – present: Independent music and film roles
In January 2014, Jones was fired by Hollywood Records, and became an independent artist. On August 29, 2014, Jones released a lyric video for her independent single “Peppermint”. It was officially released on iTunes on September 4, 2014.
Jones was in a fanta commercial in July 2017 alongside YouTubers and other public figures who appreciate the idea of self-expression. Jones was seen in the jazz film Flock of Four in the 1950s in April 2018. In September of that year, she released a song called “Just My Luck” along with her music video. On September 3, 2019, Jones released a song called “Depressed”. On September 20, 2019, she released an 8-track EP titled H.D.W.Y ..
In August 2020, it was announced that Jones would star in the upcoming holiday film White Elephant in the horror film Vampires Vs. the Bronx will appear. [
In September 2020, Jones spoke on her Youtube channel about her negative experiences at the beginning of her career. According to her, she was told after Let It Shine that she would stare at a sequel to the film, get her own TV series, and release a studio album. Eventually, people decided that she was not marketed enough, and those plans came to fruition. Jones encouraged his audience to “do math” about the situation and said colorism would be a problem in the industry.
