Jay Electronica Biography
Elpadaro F. Electronica Allah (born Timothy Elpadaro Thedford; September 19, 1976), professionally known as Jay Electronica, is an American rapper and record producer who first gained widespread attention after the release of his debut mix band, Act I: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge), released in 2007, was signed to Jay-Z’s record label Roc Nation in 2010. His debut studio album, A Written Testimony, was released in 2020 after years of speculation and delay.
Jay Electronica’s Early Life
Inspired by LL Cool J, Jay Electronica started rapping at the age of 10. He grew up in the Magnolia Projects in New Orleans and attended the all-boys parochial high school St. Louis. Augustine High School assisted. He was part of the famous Marching 100 band where he played several instruments.
Electronica left New Orleans as a young adult in the late 1990s with the intention of moving to New York City but made a stop in Atlanta. Electronica was struck by “all the set signs due to the Olympics”, where he accepted Elijah Muhammad’s teachings about the five percent nation before becoming a registered member of the Nation of Islam at its Chicago headquarters.
Musical Career of Jay Electronica
In 2007, Jay Electronica released his first mixtape via MySpace, Act I: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge). It has been downloaded more than 50,000 times. This success in their catalog led Electronica to join the Rock the Bells Tour in 2008.
Later that year, producer Just Blaze and Jay Electronica released songs for the Guitar Center’s GAIN project, Fresh Cuts Vol. 3 and included a song (previously unnamed), which Just Blaze called “Exhibit A (Transformations).”
Just Blaze would later debut (October 27, 2009) in Exhibit C on Tony Touch’s Sirius Radio, where it was quickly picked up, en route to terrestrial radio stations such as New York Hot 97 and remixes by emerging artists. from MCs AZ, NORE, Saigon, Joell Ortiz and others.
Finally a prayer war was signed with Jay (November 12, 2010) with Roc Nation. Although fans and critics anticipated a full-length debut, Electronica’s release over the next decade consisted of various collaborations and solo songs that were not albums.
On February 7, 2020, Jay Electronica announced via Twitter the completion of his album, A Written Testimony, which was recorded over a 40-day period. It was released on March 13, 2020.
